Year 4 – Trip to Howsham Mill
Last week, Year Four had the opportunity to visit Howsham Mill.
There, we explored the mill that had been rebuilt using parts of the original building, created in the 18th century. We observed the way in which electricity can be generated through the use of a river, and had a quick lesson on the building’s history.
Then, we completed two activities; creating our own working water wheel, and exploring the small island created by the surrounding river and canal through the use of maps, developing our own symbols to mark locations of interest. One of the best parts of our day was roasting marshmallows over an open fire, giving us the opportunity to learn about fire safety, and enjoy a delicious treat after a job well done.
We had a super day; excellent work, Year Four!
