Year 4 – Science
Within Science this year, Year Four have explored the key concepts of States of Matter, Electricity, and Sound.
In Autumn Term, they apply the scientific method to a series of experiments, measuring liquids, temperatures and time. They explored the rate of melting, cooling, and evaporation for a variety of substances, drawing their own correlations between the variables and the outcomes. Then when studying Electricity, Year 4 created their own working circuits, using switches to turn light bulbs, buzzers and motors on and off. They also tested a variety of materials to deduce if they were conductors or insulators.
In Spring Term, Year 4 have begun learning about Sound; they have used hands-on experiments to understand how sound travels and how different states of matter can affect the rate at which sound travels to their ears. They have also explored the relationship between distance from the source of a sound and the faintness of it.
