Science

Our aim at Burlington Junior School is to provide an ethos and atmosphere where children enjoy and develop a good understanding of different areas of Science (biology, physics, chemistry) according to outcomes stated in the National Curriculum.

We also aim to provide children with an understanding of Environmental Science as well as knowledge about past and present scientists. We strive to ensure that all our boys and girls know that they can access Science as equals and can attain careers in Science related jobs in the future.

Encouraging Science Curiosity

The Great Science Share for Schools (GSSfS)  is an annual event encouraging children to share their own scientific questions and investigations. It is a great way to build science curiosity, collaboration and confidence.

ORSTED Group Blog

We are part of a STEM Learning Enthuse Partnership with Hilderthorpe, Bempton and Flamborough Primary, Bridlington School and Brandesburton Primary. Such partnerships work together to promote STEM learning, attainment and careers knowledge so to ultimately engage a future workforce in STEM related subjects. It was set up by STEM Learning and is sponsored and funded by ORSD. You can read our group blog here:

Engineering at Primary

At Burlington we are working with the ‘Science and Engineering Education Research and Innovation Hub’ (SEERIH) at the University of Manchester who are passionate about inspiring young people regarding Engineering. This is so that pupils can understand the importance of science and engineering in our world and attain high quality knowledge and understanding from participating in interesting and engaging activities.

Children Challenging Industry

Through CIEC our pupils will work with Industry to learn more about relevant, local Science careers in a safe and engaging way. Due to Covid, this will be virtual with a professional individual leading the learning virtually whilst our teachers facilitate the resources needed. It is an excellent opportunity for our students to learn more, develop their science capital and take a virtual tour into a working industry.
