Read Write Inc
At Burlington Junior School we feel passionately that every child should have the best opportunities possible to become confident and fluent readers. Children who still require quality first phonics in KS2 are taught in small groups with support from a teacher or teaching assistant through the Read Write Inc programme.
Children are assessed and placed in colour groups depending on ability and are then assessed regularly through lessons and formally at the end of each half term. This ensures that the children are making progress and are in a group suited to their ability.
Sessions take place every morning for up to 45 minutes. An additional afternoon speed sound intervention is also in place for those children on the lower colour groups to help teach gaps in sound knowledge. Every child will also read to an adult each day.
Tight tracking by a reading lead is in place to ensure that progress is being made.
