Planting Fruit Trees
As part of our commitment to increase nature within our school, we planted 5 fruit trees (in addition to 5 fruit trees planted last December) on 9th March 2022. The Mayor of Bridlington joined us to plant apple, pear, quince and plum trees, which will provide fruit for the Burlington schools, in addition to the other benefits (wildlife habitats, oxygen, reducing carbon dioxide, good for mental health) that trees can bring.
We were also joined by Burlington Infants, Burlington Pre-School, Priory Brownies and Guides and New Pasture Lane Primary – each group planted a fruit tree to create a long-lasting community project, showing how schools and organisations can collaborate together to improve their local environment.
After the planting, we toured the nature areas of our school, looking at our Garden area (with its glasshouse made from recycled bottles), the pond and the meadow. In addition to promoting trees through the Young Tree Champions project, we are also working towards gaining levels 1 to 5 Royal Horticultural Society Gardening Awards.
