Learning with IT
Pupils at Burlington Junior School have the opportunity to experience many different types of software and hardware as a learning resource. The pupils don’t realise that they are learning about more than one thing. In the film below a lesson is using a piece of software called Lexia. This is about improving the children’s reading skills however, inadvertently they also learn many other skills in the background and are completely unaware. They are using chromebooks to access the software but it is also available on our tablets. The pupils have to know how to open the device, navigate to a browser, understand captcha technology, use a touchpad, input logon credentials, learn to type, key location, drag and drop skills, cursor manipulation all whilst actually learning about phonics and word structure.
