Careers Event
Today we have had some visitors to school as part of our careers initiative. We had separate assemblies for all the year groups and the children had to try and identify the jobs that our guests do by asking closed questions with only a yes/no answer. The children did very well and managed to work out some of the jobs that our visitors did or at least get close.
We had the honour of hosting
- Anita Radini – a Bioarcheaologist
- Caroline Lacey – CEO of East Riding of Yorkshire Council
- Martin Ruane – a Software designer/developer in the Energy Sector
- Christopher Benson – a Cardiac Physiologist
- Julie Hunt – HMRC
- Leanne Kirkham – Director of Learning at the Northern Ballet
As you can see from the above list the careers are diverse and unusual, especially to children from our local area. The idea is to ensure that children realise that there are many different fields that they could enter.
After the assemblies the guests spent time talking to the children explaining what their job entails. This ranged from understanding and diagnosing problems within a heart, determining what a neanderthal skeleton had eaten and understanding the crops that were around at that time to learning about working in a ballet company. Hopefully this will have widened the children’s horizons and aspirations and they will realise that there is a whole world of opportunities waiting for them, they just have to go for them. A huge thank you to all our guests for taking the time to talk to the children and pass on their expertise.
