This week Burlington Junior School pupils have had a visit from Rachael Dodgson, the Senior Education and Engagement Officer from the UK Parliament. Rachael held an assembly with the whole school and taught the pupils about our government, the House of Lords and the House of Commons and how they work together to create our laws. The children learned that the House of Commons is filled with elected Members of Parliament whereas the members of the House of Lords are appointed by the Queen.
In the afternoon Year 5 experienced a workshop with Rachael. The hall became the House of Commons for the afternoon and they had to debate on fictitious laws introduced by the King. This enabled the children to see both sides of an issue.
