Pupils from Year 6 visited The Priory Church yesterday as part of their History lesson on The Great Gale.  The children learnt about the devastating storm of 1871 where many local people lost their lives.  They visited the monument erected in honour of some of those people at The Priory Church and heard about the heroes from that day, like Kit Brown who lost his life trying to save the crew on a lifeboat.

Although the storm had an impact up and down the Yorkshire Coast, Bridlington saw the most loss to human life as so many boats were harbouring in our bay in the belief they would be safe.  Every year the town holds a procession to the monument at The Priory Church in memory of those that were lost.
