Year 6 hosted this term’s Stay and Solve. Parents were invited to join their children for a lesson of problem solving followed by tea/coffee and biscuits in our POD (Place of Development).

A 2 x 3 rectangle contains 8 squares.
A 3 x 4 rectangle contains 20 squares.
A 4 x 6 rectangle contains 50 squares.

What size rectangle contains exactly 100 squares, is there more than one? Could they find them all? Could they prove there are no more? The children were very focused on finding the solution and even though some didn’t get to the answer. They persevered and showed determination with the problem.
