Each term we have Stay and Read in every year group.  This is an opportunity for parents and carers to come into their child’s class and have a lesson with them.  The children love it and enjoy showing their parents how things have changed since the olden days!

First was the turn of Year 6 who were looking at SATs type questions from a reading booklet.  The children are learning to scan for the information they need to locate the answer as quickly as possible, also the importance of reading the question properly.  If the question asks for a single word to show how someone felt, the answer should be just one word, not a phrase, sentence or paragraph.

Next it was the turn of Year 4 and they were creating a story board based on paragraphs from their book ‘Kaspar the Prince of Cats’ by Michael Morpurgo. Year 3 were drawing a scene from their book ‘Stig of the Dump’ by Clive King.  Whilst Year 5 were recreating a scene from a paragraph including as much detail as possible including from inference.  They also had to label the drawing with the evidence from the paragraph to support their artwork.
