Wednesday was an exciting day for a group of year 6 boys at Burlington Junior School! They travelled to Leeds Thorpe Arch Training Ground, to represent Hull City in the Northern Regional Finals of the EFL kids cup! Once changed into the well known black and amber tigers kit, the boys warmed up with the help of their club representative Max Brentano from Tigers Trust and the Hull City Academy. The tournament was split into 2 groups to start with, with each team playing each other for a continual 8 minutes. The boys from Burlington (Hull City) completely dominated their group as you can see from the following results:
Hull city v Middlesbrough : 1-0
Hull city v Burton Albion: 2-0
Hull city v PNE: 2-0
Hull city v Barnsley: 2-0
Hull city v Sheffield Wednesday 0-0
Successfully the boys had secured themselves a place in the semi finals which saw them play Derby and gain another 1-0 victory leading them straight into the final! Here they were faced with playing Sheffield Wednesday again. The game was very tense but unfortunately Sheffield Wednesday scored in the latter minutes and despite the boys giving their all they just could not equalise which resulted them becoming runners up of the competition.
Mrs Christlow said, ‘It was heartbreaking to watch the boys lose out on their chance to represent Hull City at Wembley after they had all played so fantastically. I am so proud of what they have achieved as are Burlington Juniors. This is the first time a local school has ever even had the chance to represent the north in the regional finals. The boys are winners in our eyes and they need to be proud of themselves!’ Well done to Kornel, Stanley, Jack, Jude, Owen, Isaac, Makhaya and Logan! Many thanks to all the parents who have supported the boys on this journey.
